JCCAC Arts & Crafts Fair and Open Day (Hong Kong)

After surviving the excitement of the Royal Wedding yesterday, we need to calm ourselves down a bit (and stop imagining ourselves in that gorgeous Sarah Burton wedding dress). Thus, we went for a little arts appreciation at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC) today. The Fair and Open Day will be held for just two days (30/4 and 1/5) so we hope you read this just in time.

There you can shop for items designed by local artists (and most are hand-made), as well as to join the many workshops they organize for visitors, such as glass-blowing, accessories making, DJ-ing and even erhu (二胡) making. Not bad for a weekend huh?

And these are what we got from the Fair - bracelets with skulls embellishment and some fluorescent textile paints!

Plastic Surgery

Rainy season has officially started. To supplement wellington boots and rain coats, colorful plastic bags were seen in multiple fashion shows already and this year we have at least Kate Spade, Furla, Jil Sander and Burberry joining the gang. While fashionistas are fighting hard to get them and the waiting list is getting longer and longer, have any of them caught your eyes yet?

Home Deco x Fashion

Can’t take our eyes off this collection from Greek-born Mary Katrantzou! It’s just like putting your favorite English tea house decoration on a dress, absolutely stunning! Look at the checked floor tiles, the lamp cover fringe and those floral sofa prints! We also love the cute collars and the shoulder caps, adorable!

Reconstruct your clothes

Call us DIY fanatics or recycling freaks as you wish, but truly we like to add some personal flavor to our clothes, from time to time. Cut out the big logo from your worn out tee and turn it into a pouch, or sew some tens of 'spared' buttons you collected over the years onto your denim shirt collar, and the ideas just keep coming...

But if you don't like hand-(or machine-) sewing and prefer to start with the ABCs, watch below and learn some basics then. Happy DIY-ing!

Color Blocks

So you've heard that vivid color blocks made the SS11 trend already? (and you must have seen the effect from big names like Gucci, Prada or Zara!) We at KA.NA love that too (of course!)! But is it bothering you that you've no clue on how to start the mix-and-match? Below tips might be helpful:
1. Pick colors with BIG contrast, and we mean REALLY BIG contrast. Yellow, red and green can do the tricks, but red, orange and brown are not impressive enough.
2. If you're not confident or do not want to go THAT far, then put on only two colors in maximum. The more colors you've to match, the harder it is to look good. Try orange and blue, or red and yellow.
3. If you're finding it not exciting enough, try add in neon colors. We reckon green sweater, yellow sweat pants plus shocking pink sneakers look just fabulous!
