Denim Trend S/S 2011

Just searched for "denim" on wikipedia and found that the word in fact originated from France. It is a kind of sturdy fabric called "serge", which was originally made in Nimes of France, and therefore, serge de Nimes. The word was later shortened to denim and it has been in American usage since the late 18th century.

You probably are already bored with the skinny or boyfriend jeans which were so popular last season, designers and stylists feel the same too. So for the coming summer, we see more variations:

1. Embroidery
Military badges, colorful paintings/graffiti, studs, sequins and lace are widely used by designers to add new spice to jeans.

2. Flare & feather-light
It is summer time and therefore is supposed to be HOT, so looser and lighter denim does not only give us a fresher look but also feel more comfortable in practical terms. Wide-leg and flare jeans look perfect with almost all wedges and sandals you bought last and this season too!

3. Shirts & tops
Apart from pants, designers also made loads of other exciting items out of denim for this summer. Simply have a look at the collections by Phoebe Philo (Celine), Stella McCartney and Derek Lam, they all reserve a certain space for denim items, and many are tops like vests and shirts etc. Our favorite is vintage-like washed denim, and we suggest pairing things up to create a full-body denim look!

4. "Not-so-hot" pants
For the past few years super-short hot pants seem to have dominated the denim shorts trend, not anymore this season, however. If you got a pair of worn boyfriend jeans, grab the scissors and crop them short. Mid-way up your thighs we say. Chic.
